Once participants are off the streets and stabilized in transitional housing, they are re-assessed and placed in appropriate permanent housing settings. Featherfist provides supportive housing and services to those who are able to take on the responsibility of a lease, but require counseling, training and supervision for a period of time to become totally independent. Featherfist provides permanent housing through the following programs:

Housing Locator

The City of Chicago provides funding to agencies that have a history of developing relationships with housing providers to obtain affordable housing for the homeless. Between 2006-2009, Featherfist located over 525 permanent affordable housing units. In addition to Featherfist's own clients, other agencies with clients who have income and are ready for housing refer their clients to Featherfist for assessment and placement into proper housing. Referring agencies may provide security deposits, move-in assistance and case management. Homeless individuals and families may also apply directly to Featherfist for affordable housing.

All featherfist programs utilize our housing locator services. Examples include,Targeted Homeless Outreach and Engagement, which concentrates its efforts in region 6; Stable Families Initiative, this program provides short-term subsidies for families in crisis; Housing Locator and Inspection, this program provides housing locator services for other city-wide service providers.

This program is supported by the Chicago Community Trust.

Chronic Homeless Initiative

This is another housing program funded by the City of Chicago. This program provides permanent supportive housing subsidies to chronically homeless individuals. As part of a citywide initiative, Featherfist provides supportive housing and services to 20 individuals in the CHI.

Supportive Housing Program

This program provides rental subsidies and supportive services funding through its Low Income Housing Trust Fund. This permanent supportive housing program serves disabled, homeless individuals and families by providing them with scattered-site housing appropriate in size and location for each family.
